Eric Carnick

Eric is an Expert Testimony Director in our Chicago office. He was recruited from the University of Illinois in 2006.

Ocean Tomo has been a rewarding experience. I could not have asked for a better opportunity directly out of school. Through building models, writing reports and conversing with clients, the work at Ocean Tomo has challenged my critical thinking, creative abilities and communication skills.

Andrea Coulis

Andrea is an Expert Testimony Associate in our Chicago office. She was recruited from Indiana University in 2010.

I graduated from Indiana University in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from the Kelley School of Business and minors in Spanish, Political Science & Economics. As a student, I worked as a tutor for Microsoft applications at the Kelley School of Business and taught kickboxing classes at the Student Recreational Sports Center. I also served as a Volunteer Builder for Habitat for Humanity and was actively involved in the Investment Management track of the Investment Banking and Capital Markets Workshop.

During my last year at IU, I was interested in both Law and Finance. When Ocean Tomo reached out to me via our Undergraduate Career Services Office, I was immediately attracted to the firm’s effective and unique combination of the two fields. After doing more research on Ocean Tomo, I saw that the innovative nature of the firm would be a great fit for me, given my innate desire to discover and explore new technologies and ideas. The work/life balance that Ocean Tomo provides is also a definite bonus for anyone pursuing interests beyond the workplace, and helps us to be more well-rounded as a practice.

I graduated from Indiana University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. As a freshman, I played for the Hoosier baseball team and continued to be involved in intramural sports thereafter. I first became aware of Ocean Tomo through an employee at a networking event. Although I was originally unaware of the industry, through conversations and other interviews within the industry I quickly learned that this was the right fit for me. During the interviews at Ocean Tomo, I felt that the office culture was very friendly and that employees were genuine. I also liked the idea of working in intellectual property on a wide range of topics.

As an employee, I appreciate that no two days at the office are the same.

Justin Lewis

Justin is an Expert Testimony Managing Director in our San Francisco office. He joined Ocean Tomo in 2007.

The two main reasons I chose Ocean Tomo are the people and the focus on intellectual property. During the interview process, I met a number of Ocean Tomo professionals, all of which impressed me with their knowledge of intellectual property as well as the litigation process. There is a clear focus and team mentality that was evident from the first interview. Ocean Tomo is the only place I know that has a primary focus on the financial aspects of intellectual property and for someone who knew he wanted to work in the IP litigation field it was a welcome change from the firms that try to specialize in multiple disciplines.

Casey Loop

Casey is an Expert Testimony Analyst in our Chicago office. He was recruited from the University of California in 2014.

After a brief career in the Army, I decided to pursue two Master’s Degrees from Loyola University. During this time, I realized traditional finance was not interesting enough of a topic for me to work in for the rest of my life. While completing my first graduate degree, I discovered IPXI (Intellectual Property Exchange International) and found it to be an innovative idea. After reading more on Ocean Tomo, I submitted my resume and was later called for an interview.

During my interview, I was surprised to find that I had a chance to meet with every position from Managing Director down to the Analyst level. Additionally, I found the case study during my interview interesting, and enjoyed talking through it afterwards with Ocean Tomo Associates. After being offered a job opportunity a week later, I knew immediately Ocean Tomo was the place for me. I was excited to transition into an interesting and challenging industry, and was especially impressed with the culture I had experienced through my interview process.

I submitted my resume and was later called for an interview. I recall the interview being fairly straightforward with no oddball questions.

After the interview, Ocean Tomo was near the top of my list of places to work. I had an offer for a Big 4 firm but turned it down due to other peoples’ experiences at those firms. Ocean Tomo’s friendly environment and ever changing work provided an experience for me that felt like less of a grind and more appealing.
