Eric Carnick is an Expert Testimony Director in our Chicago office. He was recruited from The University of Illinois in August 2006.
Ocean Tomo has been a rewarding experience. I could not have asked for a better opportunity directly out of school. Through building models, writing reports and conversing with clients, the work at Ocean Tomo has challenged my critical thinking, creative abilities and communication skills.
One of my first observations upon coming to Ocean Tomo was the quality of the individuals within the firm. Ocean Tomo is made up of motivated people with impressive intelligence and character. This makes for an enjoyable overall work experience.
The accessibility of the management, and the flexibility of the firm as a whole, offer a unique environment. Directors interact with Analysts on a daily basis without hesitation, and although hard work is a must to meet and exceed client expectations, the Directors at Ocean Tomo understand an individual's personal needs as well.
Another unique aspect about Ocean Tomo is the amount of experience that Analysts and Associates obtain in such a short time. Junior members of the team are not restricted by any means in terms of taking on additional responsibilities. Ocean Tomo functions as a true meritocracy.
Justin Lewis is an Expert Testimony Managing Director in our San Francisco office. He joined Ocean Tomo in February 2007.
Over the past ten years, I have worked in both large and small firms on a variety of litigation and accounting disciplines, including financial audits, royalty audits, forensic accounting investigations, business insurance consulting (BIC), securities litigation, complex commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation. While each of these areas offers unique challenges, none are as dynamic and interesting as IP Litigation. IP Litigation combines accounting and finance with cutting edge technology and law.
Why I chose Ocean Tomo? The two main reasons I chose Ocean Tomo are the people and the focus on intellectual property. During the interview process I met a number of Ocean Tomo professionals, all of which impressed me with their knowledge of intellectual property as well as the litigation process. There is a clear focus and team mentality that was evident from the first interview. Ocean Tomo is the only place I know that has a primary focus on the financial aspects of intellectual property and for someone who knew he wanted to work in the IP litigation field it was a welcome change from the firms that try to specialize in multiple disciplines.
Sheryl Mikols is an Expert Testimony Managing Director in our Chicago office. She joined Ocean Tomo in June 2003.
My decision to join Ocean Tomo was largely affected by my prior experience of working with the founding Managing Directors at a previous firm, and knowing that they would create one of the preeminent firms in this field. At the end of the day, I know I can feel proud to be a part of that team.
Having worked for a number of years in a Big 4 firm, I also knew that the environment at Ocean Tomo would be unparalleled by any other competitor. The innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of the Managing Directors shows through in the firm’s culture and firm family values. Ocean Tomo’s work environment is also differentiated by its commitment to mentorship and day-to-day contact with senior members of the engagement team.
Ocean Tomo has enabled me to design a career path that is geared specifically toward my goals and expectations, allowing me to plan for a family and achieve a work/life balance.
