Michael K. Milani is a Managing Director in Ocean Tomo's Expert Testimony practice, working out of the Chicago office. He has over 15 years of experience related to the assessment of commercial damages in matters involving intellectual property and non-intellectual property assets. In addition to his extensive experience with litigated matters, Mr. Milani also has experience with intellectual property, business, and product line valuations outside of a litigation context.
Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Mr. Milani was an early stage employee at IPC Group, a company focused on economic, strategic, licensing, valuation, and litigation issues related to intellectual property. In addition to his work at Ocean Tomo and IPC Group, he spent six years working as a management consultant where his efforts were focused on developing business strategies designed to maximize return on investment. All combined, his experience provides him with a breadth of real world strategy, business, and valuation knowledge which significantly expands the perspective he brings to his assignments.
Mr. Milani has been a testifying expert or worked as an expert consultant across a wide range of industries including, but not limited to, consumer goods, consumer electronics, medical products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, clothing/apparel, carpet products, retail security, industrial goods and machinery, building products, financial services, automotive products and financial networks.
Mr. Milani has taught as an Adjunct Professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, specializing in intellectual property finance and legal principals. Moreover, Mr. Milani has authored several publications which discuss financial, accounting, business, and legal issues related to the determination of damages in general and intellectual property more specifically.
Mr. Milani holds a B.S. degree in Finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA with concentrations in Finance, Marketing and Strategy from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is also a Certified Licensing Professional, serving on the CLP Re-certification committee.
