Ocean Tomo professionals testify in numerous commercial litigations, mostly related to intellectual property. As head of Expert Testimony, Mr. Carter oversees the firm’s damages witness testimony in all areas. In addition, he has been a damages expert witness in numerous intellectual property related lawsuits. Mr. Carter has testified in both Federal and State courts, as well as in front of the International Trade Commission.
Mr. Carter is also active in the firm’s asset purchase and licensing, IP risk management services, and general intellectual property licensing assistance areas.
Prior to forming Ocean Tomo, Mr. Carter was one of the founding partners of Duff & Phelps Capital Partners Sale/License-Back Fund. Mr. Carter was co-head of the patent purchase and licensing aspects of the Fund, and continues today as a Manager of The Fund. Prior to joining DuffCap, Mr. Carter was a partner at an IP consultancy. While there, his efforts were focused on intellectual property infringement actions and general licensing assistance.
Mr. Carter’s clients cover a wide variety of industries, including industrial products and machinery, consumer products, electronics, telecommunications, Internet services, medical products and pharmaceuticals, financial securities, casinos/gaming, and entertainment. He is a frequent speaker and author on the financial, accounting, business, and legal issues related to intellectual property. He is an active member of the Licensing Executives Society, most recently as the Chairman of the Valuation and Taxation Committee.
Mr. Carter has a BS in Chemical Engineering, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He is currently both a registered CPA and a Licensed Public Accountant in the State of Illinois.
