Andrew. T. Ramer is the Managing Director of the Transaction practice at Ocean Tomo, and President of Ocean Tomo Auctions, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary. His responsibilities include the development and oversight of all IP sell-side initiatives including private auctions, public auctions, M&A activity, and the Ocean Tomo Dean’s List, an online marketplace for transacting IP. Prior to assuming this position, Andrew recruited and led the team which built and delivered Ocean Tomo’s first five live multi-lot intellectual property auctions, a business which continues to receive international press and has resulted in approximately $50M in transactions since April 2006. He formerly managed operations, marketing and business development for Ocean Tomo PatentRatings, the firm’s IP software analytics division.
Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Andrew spent five years with Motorola Ventures, the venture capital arm of Motorola. During his tenure, Andrew made investments in early stage technology companies in the areas of communications, semiconductors, multimedia, portable power, medical monitoring systems, interactive television, and wireless services. Andrew also spearheaded Motorola's divestiture initiative for its private holdings including a complete internally run auction process.
Andrew's experience also includes legal work at the law firm of Roche, Carens and DeGiacomo, an apprenticeship for noted creditor's rights attorney Jordan Shapiro, and a judicial clerkship in the Massachusetts Superior Court system. Andrew has co-authored and contributed to publications for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and the Massachusetts Practice Series on Collections Law. He has worked as a public securities broker for Dean Witter Reynolds, where he held his Series 7 and 63 licenses, and sold real estate including residential and commercial transactions.
He is regularly invited to speak at conferences and seminars in the United States and abroad, on various issues related to intellectual property. In addition, Andrew has participated as a member of the board of directors of eight private companies, and currently serves on the Advisory Board for Jumpstart, a national foundation focused on the enhancement of early childhood education and development. Andrew was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a JD from the New England School of Law where he graduated Cum Laude. Andrew is currently licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.
