For more than 25 years, Ocean Tomo professionals have been at the forefront of intellectual capital thought leadership. Today, we begin sharing our insights through this blog.

Ocean Tomo Insights or "OTI" aims to bring you weekly posts related to the intellectual property (IP) industry, including our views pertaining to: Expert Testimony, Valuation, Investments, Strategy, Risk Management, and Transactions. With each post we will seek to add quantitative input based on Ocean Tomo PatentRatings® system analytics.

Personally, I will also be sharing with you my work outside of the firm with the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Councils, the Licensing Executives Society International and the Invent for Humanity™ Technology Transfer Exchange Fair.

Jeff Klug
Jeffrey P. Klug is a Director in Ocean Tomo’s Expert Testimony practice and is based in the firm’s Chicago office. Mr. Klug’s consulting experience includes the quantification of economic damages in disputes involving patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, trademark infringement, false marking, and false advertising. Representative case experience spans a broad array of industries including automotive, aviation, biotechnology, computer software, construction materials, consumer products, electronics, finance, internet services, medical devices, paper, pharmaceuticals, and power tools.

Roy D’Souza
Roy P. D’Souza is a Managing Director responsible for leading Ocean Tomo’s Valuation practice. Mr. D’Souza’s work has focused on valuations of intangible and tangible assets for financial reporting, tax matters, merger and acquisition planning, litigations, financing and general business planning. Mr. D’Souza also has experience performing overall business valuations and debt and equity valuations.

Elvir Causevic
Dr. Elvir Causevic leads Ocean Tomo’s Strategic Advisory Services practice. He advises innovative enterprises on cost-effective strategic management of their intellectual assets, and creates monetization and transaction strategies for maximum value creation.
 

Michael Friedman
Michael D. Friedman is Managing Director at Ocean Tomo. He currently heads Ocean Tomo Asset Management (OTAM) and is its Chief Investment Officer. OTAM creates and manages intellectual property-based public and private investment products. The public products include exchange traded funds, hedge funds and long only funds. The private products include intangible asset based financings, direct debt and equity investments into corporations and special situation investments. Mr. Friedman also heads Ocean Tomo’s Investment Banking practice (OTIB), a division that brings IP financing, monetization and capital markets solutions to corporations and other intellectual property owners.

Justin Lewis
Justin Lewis is a Managing Director in Ocean Tomo’s Expert Testimony practice in San Francisco. Mr. Lewis’ consulting experience includes the analysis and quantification of economic damages arising from patent, trademark, trade secrets & copyright infringement. He has a solid understanding of the financial issues and theories related to intellectual property licensing and litigation. Mr. Lewis has led teams in support of counsel for all phases of the litigation process from discovery to trial. He has also performed royalty reviews on both U.S and foreign companies. Mr. Lewis has experience in several industries including computer hardware & software, semiconductor, fiber optics, telecommunications, biotechnology, diet supplements, gaming, retail, entertainment, wine, automotive and manufacturing.

Joel Lutzker
Joel Lutzker is Ocean Tomo's General Counsel and a Managing Director in the Transactions Group. Mr. Lutzker has over 30 years of experience in patent litigation and transactions. Mr. Lutzker has been first chair litigation counsel in patent cases in federal district courts throughout the country, has argued on numerous occasions before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and has been principal counsel and author of several amicus briefs on significant patent cases before the United States Supreme Court.
