Jack Bernard is a Managing Director of Ocean Tomo, LLC, an integrated intellectual capital merchant banc providing valuation, asset and risk management, transactions and expert testimony. Ocean Tomo assists clients – corporations, law firms, governments and institutional investors – in realizing value from their Intellectual Capital Equity broadly defined.
Mr. Bernard is a Managing Director in the San Francisco office and brings the unique perspective of both buy-side investment management and sell-side sales and trading expertise. He manages the Ocean Tomo Patent Equity (PEP) hedge fund.
Mr. Bernard spent the first half of his career with Merrill Lynch in New York City, where he was involved in the firm's industry-leading mortgage securitization and derivatives business. Mr. Bernard managed the trading activities for both the primary and secondary businesses and also ran the internal proprietary trading position.
Mr. Bernard moved to San Francisco to be a portfolio manager and managing director at Dresdner RCM Global Investors (DRCM), a fixed income and equity money management firms. Mr. Bernard was responsible for mortgage, asset-backed, and corporate investments. He also served on the firm's Investment Policy Committee, was co-head of global credit investments with a counterpart from Dresdner Bank in Germany, and was responsible for specialty mandates, which included a leveraged closed-end fund trading on the NYSE. He also developed and managed the corporate and high-yield CDO issuance business for DRCM.
