Dr. Jorge A. Goldstein’s scientific expertise extends to areas such as genomics, molecular and cell biology, recombinant DNA technology, immunology, transgenics, therapeutic methods, as well as organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, and polymers. He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications before the U.S. and foreign patent offices in all of these areas for close to 30 years.
Dr. Goldstein is a pioneer in conducting alternate dispute resolution services to solve inventorship disputes for parties facing costly litigation over inventor rights issues. He has also handled multiple and varied interferences, including successful appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has also been involved in oppositions, arbitrations, in District Court and in Appellate litigation both as counsel and expert witness, and in counseling clients on intellectual property strategy, trade secrets, licensing, research contracts, university-industry relations, federal licensing, due diligence, acquisitions, and employment agreements. He was lead counsel in the 1988 appellate case of In re Wands et al., 8 U.S.P.Q.2d 1400 (Fed. Cir.), the pivotal decision on biotechnology enablement requirements.
In 2003 and 2006, Dr. Goldstein was chosen by the Legal Times of Washington to be a “Leading Lawyer” in Intellectual Property and in the Life Sciences, respectively. Chambers USA 2006 cites him as a "highly respected" attorney in the life sciences.
Born in Argentina, Dr. Goldstein is fluent in Spanish, English and German. He received his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University (with high honors), his Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Science from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Dr. Goldstein is also a Director at Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, PLLC, where he heads the firm’s interference practice.
