I.C. (Jack) Waddey, Jr.
Mr. Waddey is an experienced patent practitioner and trial attorney and has more than 35 years of experience in intellectual property counseling and litigation, including trials representing clients in state and federal courts throughout the country and in the United States Courts of Appeals.  His practice has involved counseling corporate and individual clients on the protection, evaluation and enforcement of patents and trademarks, including preparing validity and infringement opinions; licensing, and litigation in all areas of intellectual property law. His technical expertise is in the mechanical arts and electro-mechanical technologies, with particular emphasis in road building machinery, automotive equipment, consumer goods, business methods and construction equipment.

Mr. Waddey serves as a legal consultant and expert witness in patent and trade secret litigation involving mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, and in other disputes involving intellectual property issues. He is a trained, certified and active dispute resolution mediator and has served as a neutral in cases pending before various courts involving IP matters and other commercial disputes. Mr. Waddey is also approved to serve as an arbitrator in NASD cases.

He received the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1970, finishing in the top 5% of his class and serving as an Associate Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. He received his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering from Auburn University in 1965 where he graduated in the top 20% of his class.

During the period of 1965-1966, he worked for General Electric as an engineer at the Small Motors Plant in Ft. Wayne, IN and at the Aircraft Controls Plant in Waynesboro, VA. He served as patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from 1966 through 1968. His background also includes service as a law clerk in 1970-1971 to Judge Harry Phillips, the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee, Virginia and the District of Columbia and has been a registered patent attorney since 1970.

He has been a contributing author to Commercial Mediation Newsletter with an article entitled Mediating IP Case. Since the spring of 2002 he has been the author of a monthly article, Mediator's Corner, on mediation of IP cases, published in the Intellectual Property Law Today.

Mr. Waddey is also co-founder and senior attorney at Waddey & Patterson.
