Kevin Arst is a Managing Director in Ocean Tomo’s Expert Testimony practice and manages its San Francisco office. Ocean Tomo is an integrated Intellectual Capital Merchant Banc® firm providing valuation, investment and risk management, transactions and expert testimony. Ocean Tomo assists clients – corporations, law firms, governments and institutional investors – in realizing Intellectual Capital Equity® value broadly defined.
Mr. Arst has consulted on more than eighty engagements involving the valuation of intellectual property and the determination of economic damages in commercial litigation. While the specific issues have varied from case to case, most engagements have included an evaluation and analysis of financial and economic data in order to support or rebut the quantification of lost profits, reasonable royalties, price erosion, unjust enrichment or diminished business value. Mr. Arst has led teams in support of counsel for all phases of the litigation process, from damages discovery strategy to trial strategy.
Mr. Arst has also provided analytical and corporate finance support to clients engaged in licensing negotiations and business transactions. In this capacity, he has performed valuations of businesses, emerging technologies, and other intellectual assets. Whether inside or outside the context of litigation, Mr. Arst has a unique appreciation for the role that intellectual property can play in creating corporate value.
Mr. Arst was awarded the Ocean Tomo President’s Award given to the member that most represents the firms culture and values. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at InteCap, Inc. (now CRA International) as a consultant in its intellectual property practice area. Mr. Arst also worked as a financial analyst for EDS, an information technology service provider. He holds a BS in Finance from Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business and recently passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant exam. Mr. Arst has applied for licensure as CPA in the State of California.
