Ocean Tomo Outside
Ocean Tomo actively supports important community programs, within the U.S. and globally.
Our efforts are presented both as an institution as well as through greater involvement by our employees in civic and charitable efforts. Together we reference these efforts under the “Ocean Tomo Outside” banner. Examples of our contributions include:
PARTNERSHIP WITH DC PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGH THE WASHINGTON LAWYERS COMMITTEE
We are proud supporters of Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School in Washington, DC and our employees serve as volunteer coaches for the school’s Geoplunge team. Geoplunge is a geography based educational game promoting critical thinking, teamwork, and sportsmanship and culminates in an end of season tournament with participation from hundreds of students from across the area.
OCEAN TOMO CELEBRATES DIVERSITY IN IP
Ocean Tomo had the honor of hosting AIPLA’s Diversity in IP Law Cocktail Hour in our San Francisco and Chicago offices. With over 100 attendees, this event was attended by members from AIPLA, Chicago Women in IP (ChiWIP), Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Italian-American Chamber of Commerce Midwest, LAGBAC- The Association of LGBT, and Ocean Tomo’s Diversity Committee.
As the 2017 Co-chairs of World IP Day in Chicago, Molly Keelan of Ocean Tomo and her co-chair, Nikki Little from Fitch Even Tabin & Flannery gathered an exceptional group of speakers for the event: Intellectual Property – Innovation – Improving Lives at Columbia College.
Chicago Women in IP (ChiWIP)’s co-founder Molly Keelan spearheaded the 2nd annual Girl Scout IP Patch at Rust-Oleum in Vernon Hills, IL on Saturday, 2/25/17. Over 60 brownies completed four interactive IP tutorials (How to be an Inventor, Patents, Trademarks and Copyrights) to earn their IP Patch and Inventor’s Badge.
As a firm, we have worked with non-profit groups to create Invent For Humanity™, a community and marketplace that facilitates Appropriate Technology transfer for the betterment of mankind.
Members of our Women’s Leadership Group spearhead a partnership with Solar Sister to bring light, hope and opportunity to some of the most remote communities in rural Africa. To date we have empowered ten female entrepreneurs to create sustainable enterprise in the developing world.
We support a dedicated professional program to assist the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute at Lurie Children’s Hospital to identify licensing opportunities to help fund on-going pediatric research.
Ocean Tomo’s Managing Director, Rich Lettiere served as the Business Co-Chair for the 39th Anniversary of the Asian Law Alliance. We recognized Emily Ward, VP and Deputy General Counsel at PayPal with the Legal Impact Award. The Asian Law Alliance helps tens of thousands of people in obtaining decent housing, justice in the immigration process, and access to basic human and legal rights.
Five Ocean Tomo employees participated in Race Judicata, a 5K Run/Walk, benefitting Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation in their mission to ensure that the law works for everyone.
Ocean Tomo is proud to have helped create Chicago Women In IP (ChiWIP). Ocean Tomo Director Molly Keelan co-chairs Community Involvement Programs for the organization. Last year they welcomed female inventors from Radio Flyer and SekureTrak who helped over 40 local Brownie Girls Scouts earn their IP Patch & Inventor Badge.
Ocean Tomo welcomed friends and clients to meet National Inventor’s Hall of Fame (NIHF), inductee Federico Faggin, inventor of the microprocessor, and to learn about a summer camp program Ocean Tomo is proud to support, Camp Invention. Each year, the NIHF Camp Invention partners with over 1,300 schools and districts in all 50 states to put 100,000 students through summer camp while introducing them to National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees like Federico.
Members of our team provide active support through hundreds of hours of community service each year and serving on boards of numerous organizations. Everyone at Ocean Tomo is part of a fund-raising match program seeking to encourage community and charitable efforts by our employees to further support individual work/life balance.
