This International Women’s Day, Ocean Tomo would like to recognize and celebrate the women in our organization. The women of Ocean Tomo are integral to our day-to-day operations and the exceptional service provided to our clients. Michelle J. Avery, CPA, CFF, oversees the Ocean Tomo Financial Experts group. Michelle has extensive experience leading major dispute resolution engagements, providing forensic accounting and expert witness services to prominent law firms in high-profile domestic and international civil litigation involving complex accounting, financial reporting, and economic damages issues. Her work frequently involves allegations of misstated financial statements, inadequate disclosures, auditor malpractice and director and officer liability. She has testified in matters related to auditor malpractice as well as economic damages.
Michelle is a recent member of the Financial Reporting Executive Committee (FinREC), the senior technical committee of the AICPA for financial reporting. She also serves as a member of the AICPA National Association of Insurance Commissioners Working Group Task Force and has served on the International Association of Insurance Receivers Board of Directors. She is the current Chair of the College of William and Mary Mason School of Business Accounting Programs Board and recently served on the James Madison University School of Accounting Guiding Executive Board. Michelle earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the College of William & Mary. She is a previous recipient of the AICPA’s Standing Ovation award in Forensics and Valuation Services award, the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) “Top 40 Under 40” award and the Washington Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” award.
Dara Flores, CPA, is the Chief Financial Officer for Ocean Tomo. Dara is responsible for all finance, accounting, payroll, human resource, and benefit related matters for the firm. Dara is the firm’s lead technology resource for the accounting and payroll information systems.
Olivia Becker is the Chief Business Development Officer of Transactions at Ocean Tomo. She has extensive global experience in patent transaction strategy and execution. Olivia is responsible for sourcing patents and managing buyers for private sale, live auctions, and the Ocean Tomo Bid-Ask™ market. Olivia jointly serves as Vice President at Ocean Tomo China, leading patent transaction sourcing for this joint venture between Ocean Tomo and Sinofaith IP. Olivia is a frequent speaker at IP professional events where she addresses intellectual property monetization strategy.
Molly Keelan is the Senior Director of Client Services overseeing relationship development and growth for Ocean Tomo. She cultivates long-term partnerships with leading lawyers facing significant litigation. Based on the client’s needs and Ocean Tomo’s experts’ educational background and testimony expertise, Molly identifies the best fitting Ocean Tomo expert or service. She also works with corporate executives to develop firm-wide and practice group-specific key intellectual property strategies.
Through speaking engagements and conference leadership participation, Molly advances her thought leadership and that of the firm. She stays top-of-mind in our fast-paced professional community through involvement in IP centric organizations and committees such as AIPLA, IPO, IPLAC and USC IP Symposium’s Women in Law. Molly is a Founder and the immediate past Chair of the Chicago Women in IP (ChiWIP) Board. Building upon Molly’s devotion to create a network of in-house and outside counsel from Chicago’s leading law firms and corporations, she spearheaded a successful launch in July 2015. Molly also serves on the board of three Chicago non-profit organizations, GirlForward, The Women’s Treatment Center (TWTC) and Illinois Women Against Alzheimer’s.
Cristie Lucas is the Chief People Officer for Ocean Tomo. She is responsible for all marketing and employment branding, social media, hiring, university relations and onboarding efforts including managing the firm’s active college recruiting programs. Cristie graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the College of William & Mary. She earned her CPA while practicing public accounting as an auditor with Johnson Lambert & Co before joining Veris from Ocean Tomo, where she is in her 20th year.
Cristie is a Past President of the Virginia Association of Colleges & Employers (VACE) and is a current member of William & Mary’s Career Services Employer Advisory Board and University of Richmond’s Q-Camp Advisory Council. She is a past participant of Employer Advisory groups at University of Richmond, JMU and Virginia Tech and is a frequent speaker on topics involving Careers in Accounting & Consulting, Success in the Workplace, Employer Advisory Boards, Externships and Experiential Learning, Creating Ambassadorship on Campus and Generational Differences in the Workplace. Cristie is a recipient of the VACE A. Isabel Gordon Distinguished Service Award, the VACE John L. Chase Meritorious Service Award and the VACE Leadership Award for contributions in her field.
Hem Marwaha Hem Marwaha is the Chief Operating Officer for Ocean Tomo, working primarily from the Chicago Office. Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Hem performed accounting and financial work within the banking and construction industries.
Clarinda Ofori-Annor is the Director of Human Resources for Ocean Tomo. She is responsible for providing strategic guidance and leadership for all aspects of the human resources function and establishing a vision and direction for the full complement of core human capital programs, policies, and services. This includes providing leadership and direction in the development of HR policies that promote Ocean Tomo’s workforce while supporting the Firm’s mission. Clarinda also oversees the Industry Analyst Committee for Ocean Tomo. Industry Analyst Committee provides a comprehensive look at current industry trends and deal activity in several technology areas.
Shirley Webster is a Managing Director in Ocean Tomo’s Intellectual Property Disputes Financial Expert Testimony practice. Shirley consults on intellectual property matters, providing analysis of economic damages, as well as expert testimony. These matters have included patent infringement, consideration of both reasonable royalties and lost profits, trade secret misappropriation, trademark infringement, gray market goods litigation, copyright litigation; valuation of intellectual property; and assistance in intellectual property licensing strategy.
She also provides financial analyses, consulting services and expert witness testimony on a variety of other types of litigation matters, including antitrust cases, breach of contract cases, product liability cases, fraud/misappropriations, franchisor/franchisee and distributor disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, ERISA, personal injury/wrongful death, termination, and dissident shareholder actions. Shirley has also consulted and testified in bankruptcy and reorganization matters.
