Caroline is a Manager in the Financial Expert business unit, working out of the Reston (DC Metro) office. She is responsible for providing litigation support and forensic accounting consulting services, including evaluation of economic damages, internal audit and auditor malpractice, insurance and reinsurance, spent nuclear fuel, and financial reporting matters. Caroline conducts research related to GAAP, GAAS, PCAOB standards and industry-specific authoritative literature. Her recent work includes an analysis of economic damages, resulting from an alleged breach of contract involving a nuclear utility company and the United States Department of Energy, to assist in the preparation of depositions and pre-trial documents.
Caroline joined Ocean Tomo, a part of J.S. Held, after after several years as a Senior Financial Analyst with CGI and a Senior Tax Associate at Ernst & Young, a Big 4 accounting firm.
While at CGI, Caroline developed and managed $160M budget, forecast, and monthly income statement for financial services and insurance sectors. She was responsible for building comprehensive financial models to facilitate management decisions and support revenue growth and calculated monthly revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS 15. She was also responsible for establishing and monitoring applicable SOX controls.
While at Ernst & Young, Caroline trained and directed staff level associates through a variety of tax compliance and planning engagements, including managing up to 12 staff at a time, for clients in the automotive, biomedical, energy, manufacturing, media, and software fields. She also audited domestic and international tax account related items in accordance with ASC 740, SOX 404, and other applicable accounting standards. In addition to reviewing federal income tax returns, state income and franchise tax returns, annual tax extension filings, and quarterly estimates for both corporations and partnerships, Caroline assisted with tax controversy matters; draft memoranda, responses, and rebuttals to IRS and quantified tax incentives and conducted tax planning studies, including research and development credits, tax accounting method changes, and modeling impact of tax law changes.
Caroline is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is a Lean Six Sigma White Belt. She holds a Masters in Accounting and a Bachelors of Business Administration, with a Major in Accounting, summa cum laude, from The College of William & Mary.
