Daniel Schaffer is an Analyst in the Expert Testimony practice at the firm’s Chicago headquarters. The practice quantifies economic damages arising from intellectual property disputes and offers supportive fact-based expert testimony. Mr. Schaffer also supports transactional engagements.

Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Mr. Schaffer worked at a Chicago-based private equity firm, where he analyzed prospective investment opportunities and conducted patent due diligence. Previously, Mr. Schaffer was an associate at an intellectual property law firm, where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and assisted in patent litigation. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Schaffer conducted science research and authored research publications in molecular biology and genetics.

Mr. Schaffer is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois, California, and Michigan. Mr. Schaffer earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, M.S. in Biotechnology and B.A. in Biological Sciences, both from Northwestern University. Mr. Schaffer is currently earning his M.B.A. at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
